PEVEN EVERETT – MEDICINE MAN

I’m thinking where to begin… I have mixed emotions… my expectations were so high because Peven is one of my favorite artists. He has set so many levels in music with songs like Special, Burning Hot, Sexy Make Up – however the reigning king of the Underground Club scene only comes off as a prince in his latest release Medicine Man, under the title Peven Everett & Company.  (Who’s the “Company” btw? Inquiring minds want to know)

The top half of the CD really didn’t capture my attention…well it did (only to say I wasn’t impressed).  Part of it has to do with the production being almost entirely the same on each song. Which does not help “P,” out since his is NOT the power voice of, say Byron Stingily.

However, (this is the good part) – I heard THREE standout tracks, which made me enjoy his music in the first place.

  • Help Me (121bpm) – Is pure club funkness with a theme of a man actually asking for “help” (talk about unrealistic but, this is an expressive song… LOL)
  • Everybody Loves The Camera (123bpm) – Serves as his hybrid of Madonna’s “Vogue,” and RuPaul’s “Work It.” And, although I didn’t like it when I first heard it… as the song played, the catchy melody and Big Band backbeats had me locked in.  Besides, everybody LOVES the camera! Have you seen my pictures on Facebook >>> www.facebook.com/thelegendarycw (Shameless)
  • Your Lovin Eases My Mind (120bpm) – Perhaps this might be the best track of the bunch. It’s a variation of the soulful house music, and Peven comes out with a strong vocal performance
  • And I’ll give special consideration to Want You At My Party (124bpm)

Last Call: While I STILL love Peven in terms of Medicine Man it’s best to take it in small doses 2.5 spins
